New England Patriots 28, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0
Here we are in the lull between the college football regular season and the bowl games. It’s nice of the NFL to schedule some games on Saturday to help with our withdrawal.
The game between the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was advertised as a great match up. The biggest line was with these two teams we had the winners of the last four Super Bowls playing each other.
I like the Patriots because of their team play and commitment to excellence. I like the Buccaneers because they are from Florida and there are quite a few Bucs that played for Florida State University.
The Pats had lost a few games this season and were on the way back up. The Bucs had struggled in the seasons following their Super Bowl win and were on the way back up.
I was all set for a great game. When I fell asleep in the second quarter, the score was New England 7, Tampa Bay 0. When I woke up in the fourth quarter, the score was New England 28, Tampa Bay 0.
New England quarterback Tom Brady was questionable for the game after 84 consecutive starts. I guess questionable works well for Brady because he threw for three touchdown passes in his 85th consecutive start.
Not a good day for the Bucs.

In Defense of Donovan McNabb (Again)
I once again find myself this week coming to the defense of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.
If that wasn’t enough, check out this ignorant quote “In essence Donny, you are mediocre at best,” Mondesire wrote. “And trying to disguise that fact behind some concocted reasoning that African American quarterbacks who can scramble and who can run the ball are somehow lesser field generals … is more insulting off the field than on.”
This time it’s not from T.O. or Rush Limbaugh, but someone who should have McNabb’s back anyway, J. Whyatt Mondesire, who publishes a newspaper for blacks and is the president of the Philadelphia branch of the NAACP, who recently wrote that the Eagles’ star quarterback failed as a team leader and choked in the Super Bowl.
McNabb led the Eagles to the NFC Championship game for four straight years, and last season finally got the team over the and into the Super Bowl. He has proven himself time and time again, depsite all the nay-sayers. He has improved steadily over the past five years, and even though he is out for the year after ripping his groin, I consider him to be one of the top 3 signal-callers in the NFL.
Mondesire to my knowledge has never coached nor covered the game (and yes, this humble coorespondent has done both), and who is he to consider McNabb “a sellout.”
McNabb is one of the most gutsy competitiors in the NFL and deserves everyones utmost respect, especially someone who leads a branch of the NAACP, an outfit that is supposed to be “for” the advancement of blacks.” Shame on you Mr. Mondesire!
You’d figure a leader of this equal rights organization would have better things to do in the world that criticize Donovan McNabb??

NFL Football Sportsbook Bets
Generally, you bet on 2 or more teams with specific outcomes. The important thing to remember about sportsbook parlays is that all the wagers have to win. With some rare exceptions, you can not just win one of the wagers to collect your dollars.
Parlays are some of the most fun types of wagering out there. Again, once you’ve mastered the bookmaking basics, you can move on up to the parlay wagering. A NFL Parlay can get pretty strange. During larger games, parlays can be put down on things such as number of interceptions, number of blocked punts and total points at the half.
The more parlay wagers you make on one bet, the higher your payout can be. Of course, the more parlays you lay, the more money you wager. Your propositions are the actual wagers within the parlay. You can choose 3, 5 or 12 propositions on your parlay wager and put down money on each. You can make a lot of money on a NFL parlay but you can also lose some.
A teaser can only be played in NFL & NBA.
The teaser is one bet consisting of two or more propositions in which you are allowed to adjust the point spread in your favor. If there is any loss in a teaser, the entire teaser results in a loss! Otherwise, if the teaser contains a push, tie, or no action, the teaser will revert to the next amount of teams, paying the Sportsbook betting odds of the new teaser. In the case of a two-team teaser, if there is a tie, no action, or push, the wager will be refunded.
Example:
4 Teams in a 6 Points Teaser Risk $100 to win $300
Team Points Adjusted Points
Cowboys +7 is now +13
Giants -3 is now +3
49ers -6 is now (Even)

Get Your Football Tickets Somehow, Someway
As a fan of a very popular and successful professional football team, I know it can be difficult to get tickets, but what if you want to buy Detroit lion tickets? In recent history, the Detroit Lions have not been overly successful, but does that make the tickets any cheaper or easier to obtain? I suppose it depends on who sets ticket prices and how often they sell out their stadium, no matter what their record is. The more I look into it, the more I realize that the best prices on about anything can be found online, and Detroit lion tickets, or any NFL tickets for that matter, are no exception. All you need to do, then, is understand the step by step process of buying Detroit lion tickets online to get the best price possible.
The first couple of steps may seem obvious, but it is important that you are prepared when you to make your Detroit lion ticket purchase. First of all, you will need to figure out which game you want to attend. Is there a particular opponent you want to see? If not, you can just check all games and see where there is availability. Many games for a number of NFL teams are sold out before the season even begins, due to the enormous popularity of pro football. However, just in case, go online to the Detroit Lions’ official website and check to see if there are tickets available for the game you want to see. If so, you are in luck, the team will be selling the tickets at face value, which is really as low as you can expect to get them for unless you are buying an enormous quantity of Detroit lion tickets.
If you are planning a season or more ahead to buy your Detroit lion tickets, you may want to join the team’s waitlist of fan club. You will, then, likely get access tickets on a preferential basis. In addition, you will likely have a great shot at playoff tickets if that is something that becomes an issue during the season. Because no matter which game you want to go to, Detroit lion tickets for the playoffs sure would make for a good time.
Another option is to buy your Detroit lion tickets from a ticket broker. Brokering is illegal in some states, but rarely prosecuted. If you are concerned, however, just check with your local and state laws to make sure everything you do is on the up and up. A broker will buy up tickets to sold out events and resell them for a profit. Your Detroit Lion tickets won’t be cheap going this route, but you are likely to get tickets to whatever event you would like to. If you want to bottom feed a little bit more, there are always ticket scalpers around on game day. They basically do what brokers do, only without the office. If you are the type who likes to wheel an deal and doesn’t mind gambling a bit, you can certainly do all of those things if you get your Detroit Lion tickets from a ticket scalper.
Tickets for any NFL team, yes even the Detroit Lions, are difficult to get sometimes. However, if you plan out which game you want to see, getting the Detroit Lions tickets you want is not difficult. You may have to spend some money, but if you get to see the game you want, isn’t it worth it?

When Winning Is the Only Thing That Matters
While I’m happy with the Vikings current winning streak and their improved play, I will reserve judgment and praise of their recent performance until after this week’s game with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pittsburgh is a good team with an 8-5 record. They will provide the toughest competition that the Vikings have faced in the past six weeks.
We will finally see if the Vikings are a legitimate playoff contender.
Now I want to return to an old story called Cruisegate where alleged Vikings players took part in a sex party with prostitutes on board a Minnesota cruise.
It seems as if winning is the only thing that matters to Minnesota’s media, fans and Vikings ownership.
Now that the Vikings are winning, the media seems to have shelved this story. The media was convinced that some Vikings players exhibited horrible, immoral and even illegal behavior.
To date media and law enforcement officials have not exonerated Vikings players who allegedly took part in Cruisegate. In fact at least one law enforcement agency has turned the case over to prosecutors to be reviewed.
We’re now waiting to see what the FBI and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office does with the case.
Can we assume that the media only reports wrongful and illegal behavior of professional athletes when sports teams in their city are losing? Does the media only care about winning?
I’m not sure of the answers to those questions but it does look like it.
The fans are also to blame for the story being shelved. When the Vikings were losing, fans were outraged by the Vikings alleged actions in Cruisegate. The fans were demanding that law enforcement and team officials take action.
Now that the Vikings are winning they don’t seem to care about Cruisegate anymore. They only seem to care that their team is winning.
The ownership of the Vikings also seems to have turned a blind eye to the whole affair. Shortly after the story about Crusiegate was made public, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf held a press conference. He promised the community of the Twin Cities that his team would deal with the players involved and that they would be disciplined.
He wasn’t even denying the alleged actions of his players. Now that his team is winning, he seems to have forgotten his promise to the people of Minnesota.
The actions of the media, Vikings fans and Vikings ownership are terrible. I believe that they only care about winning football games. Doing the right thing, being a good and productive citizen and following the law seems to mean nothing to the media, fans and ownership.
As long as the Vikings are winning, it seems as if it’s ok for Vikings players to do what they want. They are free to urinate on someone’s lawn and then allegedly take part in a sex party with prostitutes. I guess it’s a win win situation for the devil, isn’t it.

The Modern Day ?Monsters of the Midway??
The 2005 Chicago Bears defense is catching many comparisons to the 1985-86 Super Bowl winning “Monsters of the Midway†because of their dominance, and this year’s team has the chance to go down in history as the “Modern Day Monsters..†if they can duplicate their predecessors Super Bowl feat. Until then, perhaps a comparison to the 2001, then NFC Central Division, Championship team is more apt.
This year’s team has escaped losses by the skin of their teeth on several occasions thanks to big defensive plays late in the game or in OT much like the 2001 team which seemed to win every game on an interception return for a TD. At 9-3, if the Bears win out, they will match the 13-3 mark of the 2001 Bears. It’s becoming more and more apparent that these two Bears teams, especially if you watch the games, and not the 1985-86 Super Bowl winning team, have a more similar resemblance. However, I think this comparison has everything to do with offense, not defense.
The 1985 Bears defense did not spend the majority of the game on the field. They had an All Pro offensive backfield with Walter Payton and Jim McMahon as well as a deep threat in Willie Gualt as the team’s play makers, who had no problem controlling the ball and putting the pigskin in the end zone. This year’s team has a former All Pro receiver in Muhammed, who came over from Carolina, who is not being utilized to his full capacity as Coach Lovie Smith took the ball out of rookie QB Kyle Orton’s hands after a 5 INT fiasco in week three against Cincinnati. The Bears have scrapped any deep routes down the middle of the field and will only occasionally throw a 30 yard go route to Muhammed down the sideline so that it has very little chance of being picked. Lovie Smith has decided to cut his losses on the offensive end by running the football 3 downs and punting every possession if necessary. He wants to take care of the ball and use his offense as a defensive catalyst instead of vice versa to leave their opponents in vulnerable positions on the field to give his big play defense a chance to make big plays.
They say defense wins championships, and if this is the case the Bears appear to be in good position, especially in a NFC where teams such as the Eagles, Falcons, and the Panthers, who the Bears beat impressively a couple weeks ago, are not playing their best football. Seattle most likely presents the biggest challenge for the Bears at this point. But I think the question of this teams ultimate success revolves around its offense. The 2001 Bears didn’t have enough offense to get past their 1st playoff opponent as they went down to Philadelphia 31-19, and at some point, one would speculate, the Bears defense will endure injury problems or their legs will simply tire out from spending so much time on the field over the course of the season. But if somehow this miracle season which started 1-3 can end with a Super Bowl victory, the 2005 Bears defense would have to go down in history as a better defense than the “Monsters of the Midway†as they would have been more responsible for their team’s success with the sizeable offensive disadvantage that they have. And if this year’s Bears make the big game but don’t come out on top, they should at least be considered equals to the 1985 defense, and maybe they wouldn’t even have to go that far.
Only time will tell, but we could be witnessing history this season. This years Bears could be enshrined in the same untouchable place as the ’85 team that has Bears fans and analysts mocking me for even hinting that this years defense is better. I’ve even held off writing this article for a couple weeks thinking the Bears’ luck will run out any week now and they’ll fall to reality, but they continue to rise to the occasion. I’m going to come out and say it because I want to be the first. The 2005 Bears are the Modern Day Monsters of the Midway.

Foote Notes: NFL Observations – 12/6/05
Carolina finds missing piece to puzzle … The Panthers will look for their third straight 100 yard rushing game this week against divisional foe, Tampa Bay. For the second straight week, Panthers rushed for over 100 yards. Carolina smothered Atlanta 24-6 and outrushed the Falcons 142-120. The back to back rushing feats is noteworthy because CAR entered Sunday with the NFL’s 26th ranked rushing attack. This has in turn put a lot of pressure on Delhomme, who also entered Sunday with the third most interceptions. But the past two weeks, John Fox committed to DeShaun Foster over Stephen Davis as the featured back and the results have followed. In other words, the Panthers are filling their only weakness (their defense ranks 4th in the NFL), which spells bad news for their remaining foes, including the Bucs this week.
Red-Skins poised to deliver green … Joe Gibbs improved to a remarkable 53-18 SU in games in December and January after a 24-9 road win over St. Louis. The victory snapped a three game losing streak and improved the Skins to 5-1 ATS in December games since Gibbs took over last season. This might serve the Hogs well this week at Arizona (+3.5), who are a horrific 1-7 ATS as an underdog this year and 1-4 ATS at home.
AFC East of the Least … So much for parity. The Patriots could practically sleep walk the rest of the year and be almost assured of AFC East Divisional crown and No.4 seed in the playoffs. Perhaps, Buffalo (+3) can take advantage of a complacent New England bunch coming off a less than impressive 16-3 victory over the Green Airplanes. NE needed a field goal at the end of the second quarter just to go into halftime with a 6-3 lead. But that FG was harmless compared to the one Vinatieri kicked with less than a minute remaining in the final period that gave the Pats a 16-3 lead. While the three points were pretty much meaningless to the outcome on the field, it cost New York backers who were grabbing 10.5 points. Even with the front door cover, New England is just 2-5 ATS their last seven and seems more far more interested in getting healthy for the playoffs than covering spreads. They travel to Buffalo, which is coming off a crushing 24-23 loss to Miami where they blew a 20-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The good news is that they still covered as a 5.5-point road dog to improve to 5-2-1 ATS their last eight. In fact, Bills are an in the money 15-6 ATS their last twenty one games after September going back to last season.
Steelers limping down the stretch … Steelers have dropped three in a row both straight up and against the number after a 38-31 home loss to Cincinnati. Puzzlingly, though, Pittsburgh (-6) is more than a early field goal favorite this week against the Bears, who are headed in the opposite direction at 8-0 SU and 6-1-1 ATS their past eight games. After their latest setback, Pitt’s playoff hopes look about as bleak as a cold, dreary winter day in the Steel City. Cincinnati now has a 2.5 game lead over the Steelers in the division. Jacksonville meanwhile has a stranglehold on one of the wild card spots. For Pittsburgh to sneak in, San Diego and Kansas City would have to collapse down the stretch since both own better records than the Steelers for the final wild card slot.
Texans Quietly Raking In Cash … Yes, Houston took one step closer to winning the Reggie Bush sweepstakes after a 16-15 road loss to Baltimore. But they easily covered as a 7.5-point underdog. In fact, the Texans are 4-2 ATS their last six and would be 5-1 ATS if not for the gigantic debacle the week before against the Rams. For those that missed it, HOU led by as many as twenty-one points against STL and blew a 10-point lead with less than a minute remaining in regulation to force the game into OT where they fell 33-27 as a 3-point dog. Now they are receiving a generous 6.5-points to a Tennessee team that is 3-9 SU on the season.
Bledsoe just so-so … Kansas City improved to 3-0 both SU and ATS after an impressive 31-27 home win over Denver. Chiefs stand a good chance to continue their winning streak against the struggling Cowboys. Dallas has dropped their last two both SU and ATS and we hate to point fingers (not really) but Drew Bledsoe is probably reason no. 1 for the losing streak. The slow footed Bledsoe completed just 15-of-39 passes for 146 yards on one touchdown and two interceptions in his team’s latest loss to the Giants. For those keeping score that translates to a measly 36.9 passer rating. His passer rating the prior two games amounted to 75.2 and 65.5. These remind us our grades back in high school but we expect more from a NFL QB. Facing a hot Chiefs bunch doesn’t seem like much of a turnaround recipe either.
Falcons endangered species … Atlanta dropped to 1-3 both SU and ATS their last four and nearly out of playoff contention after falling to Carolina 24-6 on the road. Reason for concern? Evidently not, as oddsmakers have burdened the Falcons (-10) with a double digit impost this week against the Saints at home. Atlanta hasn’t been a favorite of this magnitude all year and even the hellacious Saints haven’t received this many generous points this season either. Despite their struggles, Saints seem to play better the more unlikely it is for them to win as they are 3-1 ATS as a dog of +4 or more

Bowl Preview – GMAC Bowl
GMAC BOWL
Wednesday, December 21st 8:00 PM ET – Ladd Peebles Stadium – Mobile, AL
Texas-El Paso Miners vs. Toledo Rockets
This was not the destination either team had hopes for but it will certainly provide an entertaining matchup. Both teams are in the top 20 in total offense in the country so whoever’s defense steps up or whoever has the ball last will win, one or the other. UTEP was poised to make a trip to the C-USA Championship but the Miners dropped their last two games and finished a game behind Tulsa in the West Division. The offense scored 23 and 27 points in those last two games, the lowest offensive output since week 4.
It was a very similar ending for Toledo who controlled its own destiny at the end of the regular season but a home loss to Northern Illinois took that out of its hands. The Rockets recovered to defeat Bowling Green to finish 8-3 but were denied a return trip to the MAC Championship. Toledo finished 17th in the country in total offense and 14th in scoring offense, averaging 445.2 ypg and 34.9 ppg respectively. The running game was the strength as the Rockets finished 12th in rushing offense and 6th in yard per carry average.
The Miners were very effective on offense as well this season despite the final two games. UTEP ended the regular season 20th in total offense and 21st in scoring offense. Just the opposite of Toledo, the Miners rely more heavily on the passing game, averaging 310.5 ypg, good for 8th in the nation. The running game was extremely inconsistent this season as they ran for 145 or more yards six times but were held to 97 yards or fewer five times. The total offense went over 400 yards in each of their last four games.
The defenses of both teams did not finish strong. Toledo finished 36th in scoring defense but a trend of allowing more points in every one of its last seven games does not bode well. The Rockets closed the season allowing 3, 14, 15, 21, 21, 35 and 41 points. Two of the three worst efforts occurred in the last two weeks of the season. The Miners were erratic most of the season and it didn’t end well. After allowing 20.3 ppg in its first six games, UTEP allowed 36 ppg in its final four games not counting the 1-AA game.
Toledo finished this season going just 2-6 against the number when favored including a 0-4 ATS mark on the road. The Rockets also finished 0-3 ATS when favored by fewer than two touchdowns. UTEP was a favorite in every game this season so being the underdog is a new role for the Miners. UTEP was 2-3 ATS on the road. Combined, both went 7-4 under with a total of 56 or higher while Toledo was a big under team on the road going 5-1 on the season.

2006 NFL Draft: The Reggie Bush Sweepstakes
While it’s still quite a few months before the NFL Draft, with the regular season winding down, it’s a good time as any to take a glance at the teams who are “competing’ for the league’s worst record and the right to draft the lone “can’t miss” college player, USC running back/receiver/kick return specialist Reggie Bush.
If you weren’t convinced of this kid’s potential at the beginning of the college football year, after watching him blow by defenses in 2004, after watching his last two games against Fresno State and UCLA, you have to be convinced now, right??
Current favorite: The Houston Texans
They’ll be a few changes here, especially in the coaching department, as Dom Capers and his staff will either be shown the door at the end of the season, or sooner. David Carr was supposed to develop into the franchise QB by now, but we really don’t know how good he is because of the lack of talent around him. The Texans management still believe he has potential, so they won’t be drafting his replacement in 2006.
Bush would give the team at least a watch-able player, something they don’t have at the moment. Not sure about you, but Domanick Davis doesn’t exactly get the juices flowing.
The San Francisco 49ers
This may be the best scenario for the the San Diego native, since the hometown Chargers won’t pick til late in the 1st round. Also, he and last year’s #1 pick Alex Smith were teammates at Helix High. near San Diego.
The 49ers were once a proud organization, and with a underrated coach like Mike Nolan at the helm, all he needs are a few difference-makers, which Bush definitely is. Interesting enough, the Niners face the Texans in week 17, possibly with the USC star as the prize for the loser.
I knew Direct TV offered Sunday Ticket for some reason.
New York Jets
With the team having so much uncertainty about thir current quarterback situation, namely the health of Chad Pennington, Matt Leinart may be the more helpful choice. The Jets still have Curtis Martin in the backfield, and he can still run despite his age by evidenced by his rushing title in 2004.
And with Eli Manning starring for the cross-town Giants, the Jets would also love to have a marquee signal-caller. But could they really pass on Bush??
Green Bay Packers
Brett Favre probably won’t allow the Pack to finish with the league’s worst record, especially with the Lions and Ravens remaining on the schedule. Who even knows yet if he’ll be back next year, as it’s pretty much assured that head coach Mike Sherman is a goner.
And the team certainly won’t draft another QB, since Aaron Rodgers is the future, I guess? If Favre returns for another year or two, he may never see the field.
The health of Ahman Green is also an issue, so Bush would be the perfect fit for GB. He’d also give Favre a dump-off guy, so hopefully he won’t continue to throw into coverage. But old habits are hard to break, especially 14 year old habits.

How to Buy SEC Championship Tickets
Let me start this article with a sincere “Thank You†to all of those who read my last article on “How to Buy World Series Ticketsâ€. I was contacted by numerous individuals who asked about getting tickets to all kinds of sporting events. (Who knew when I started my search for World Series tickets for my husband that I would be nicknamed the “ticket ladyâ€.) I have not had time to research getting tickets to all of these events, but I am taking them one at time…starting with the NCAA SEC Championship held in Atlanta, Georgia.
For those of you who live outside of the southeast, you are probably gleefully unaware of the seriousness to which college football is taken there. College football is a certifiable religion. SEC fans are much like the zealous evangelists proselytizing to the masses. (Of course, there is far more alcohol involved with the football.) There are 12 teams that comprise the SEC. The SEC Championship is the decisive game that crowns the winner of the very coveted SEC Football title.
My husband’s friend, Dave came to me and asked for my advice in finding SEC Championship tickets for his girlfriend. Apparently, she is an LSU Alumni and much like her fellow SEC-ites, she is a rabid fan. I immediately took up his cause. Here are a few strategies I discovered in my search:
Strategy #1
Talk to friends, family members, colleagues and your brother’s-wife’s-sister’s-boyfriend’s-mom’s-cousin who just happens to be a current ticket holder for the SEC Championship. Each year, current ticket holders have the opportunity to renew their SEC Championship tickets for the next SEC Championship game. Maybe you can sweet talk them in to letting you use the tickets for this year. If not…see Strategy #2.
Strategy #2
It may be a wise idea to go ahead and place your name on the 2006 SEC Championship Tickets Waiting List which is open from September 1st through December 31st. If there are any tickets available after the renewal period the SEC will randomly contact members on the tickets waiting list and give them the opportunity to buy tickets. Strategies #1, #2 and #3 maybe your only options to buy SEC Championship tickets at the face value, so it is definitely worth a shot. (**Note: the 2005 Waiting List is closed.)
Strategy #3
Contact the ticket office of the schools that are selected to participate in the SEC Championship and the Georgia Dome. Students, alumni and faculty usually get the first priority at the school box offices. All tickets sold through the ticket offices are sold for face value. The box office at the Georgia Dome will only release tickets if available, which is unlikely.
Strategy #4
Visit ConsumerChoiceReview.com. This is a great site that gives you all kinds of information about the major sporting events as well as various ticket brokers who specialize in the SEC Championship. You can feel confident that all of the ticket brokers listed on this site are reputable because consumers are allowed to review each ticket broker and their level of service. It even provides event information, so that you can impress your family and friends with your obscure sports knowledge!! Consumer Choice Review also gives you helpful information on how to protect yourself from purchasing counterfeit tickets.
Strategy #5
Another option for SEC Championship tickets is www.ebay.com. Ebay will have a plethora of tickets, but consumers should be aware that you could be paying top dollar for a ticket that is fraudulent. I have heard horror stories of people buying on Ebay, so I have always been leery of using it. I found some really good tips on using Ebay on Consumer Choice Review. This site provides a step by step guide to buying on Ebay.
Strategy #6
Go to the stadium and take the risk that there are no tickets available from scalpers. Or that the tickets that are available are ridiculously expensive or even worse, possibly counterfeit or stolen. I would never pay hundreds of dollars in cash for tickets that could turn out to be fake or stolen. You should always use a credit card because they offer protection of purchases that turn out to be fake or stolen tickets. ***Be very careful when taking this approach and be sure to read the tips posted on Consumer Choice Review prior to taking this strategy.
All in all, there are several options to find tickets to any sporting event you want to attend, whether it is the SEC Football Championship or the NCAA Final Four. The deciding factor is how much are you willing to pay? And what price are you willing to put on your protection as a consumer?
