Team Building – 7 Steps to Success

“We are going to build a team”. Replace the word “team” with the word “house” – or any other noun that can be built and will take more than just a few minutes – and most sensible people will want to adopt a structured approach.
Plans will be drawn up and approved. People will receive copies of the plan and efforts will be made to ensure everyone understands it. Progress will be monitored against the plan. Lessons will be learned along the way that will be used to improve the next phase. Anything less will lead at best to mediocrity and underachievement.
So why is team building so often treated in an ad hoc manner? You wouldn’t take bricks and mortar out, show them a good time and expect them to rearrange themselves into something better just because they had a nice break. So why expect a group of people to do any better?
The only answer to that question with any merit is that bricks can’t think and people can. Which sounds like management by abdication. Or perhaps management by trusting to luck. It certainly doesn’t sound like a structured approach.
So if taking people off for some fun is not team building – what is it?
Traditional away day options are team bonding exercises – and that is different. Take a group quad-biking, paint-balling etc and it will help bond the participants through a shared experience. You can even justify its use of some of the training budget if you like by claiming it has helped them develop as a team. Just don’t believe it – or you’ll be disappointed to discover that while the group is closer it is no more effective.
No – if you want to build a team rather than just bond the individuals closer, you need a structured process. You need to decide before you start what improvements you want and can realistically expect the team to achieve. Next you can decide how long it will take to achieve those results.
Often, fun remains a key objective for such a session. If it is the only one – or is only combined with a desire to get the team to become closer – organising a team bonding session is an ideal solution. If, however, your expectations are set higher than that – then you need something more structured.
So what are the key characteristics of a genuine team building session? I suggest the following 7 steps will lead to success:
1) Have definite session and longer-term goals and know how the session goals lead to the longer term ones.
2) Use an engaging and varied base activity that involves each participant in something that he or she enjoys doing.
3) Use an activity that achieves that engagement while having genuine parallels to the workplace and has relevance with the session goals.
4) Select an activity that requires the same kind of skill sets and team approaches that are needed at work – albeit one that is removed from the work itself.
5) Consider using an independent (internal or external) facilitator – to allow all levels to join in as equals and to avoid it feeling like a “sermon from above”.
6) Debrief using a predefined process that highlights the workplace parallels and allows the participants to extract their own learning rather than be preached to.
7) Use a proven mechanism to transfer the learning back to the workplace, ideally integrated within the debriefing process itself.
If none of these seem important, you are probably looking at a pure fun bonding session. Whether that is a trip to the nearest (or furthest!) bar or something that offers the group an experience that all of its members will enjoy doesn’t matter too much.
But if any of them do seem important, then I’d suggest that they all are. If one or more are missing then your team building session will be compromised. And that’s a word that sits well alongside mediocrity and underachievement.

Proud Bald Men

Bald men have become increasingly popular in the mainstream media. The stars are bright AND bald! It’s true. Celebrities increasingly remind the common man that hair loss is not taboo.
Below, you will find an extensive list of famous men who experienced baldness at an early age.
Bruce Willis
His hair started thinning on national television in 1985 on the series “Moonlighting,” but at the age of thirty, Bruce didn’t let male hair loss hold him back. He married the beautiful actress two years later in 1987, and continued his acting career with hits like “Die Hard,” and “Armageddon.” Just before the turn of the century, Bruce started shaving his head for the smooth and professional look.
Vin Diesel
This star actor of the “Fast and the furious” didn’t become furious when he started losing his hair. He went for the smooth look and landed role after role. Hello Hollywood, say hello to a confident young male actor. Have we ever seen Vin Diesel with hair? The thirty eight year old still looks like he’s in his twenties.
Ron Howard
Although ‘Opie’ may not be the sexiest man in Hollywood, he’s most certainly one of the most powerful and creative. Ron Howard’s hair loss didn’t stop him from achieving his dreams.
Patrick Stewart
By the age of nineteen Patrick Stewart was completely bald due to inherited Alopecia. Despite this condition, Patrick continued with his dreams of success. In reference to his success on Star Trek, his daughter once joked, “he baldly went where no man has gone before.”
Andre Agassi
The famous tennis player once sported long hair and an earring to all of his games. Suddenly in 1997, at the age of twenty seven years of age, Agassi started going bald. The man quoted for his advertisement slogan “Image is everything,” had to keep his image ‘real.’ In 1998, a new Agassi emerged with a smooth bald head. Women thought he looked sexier than ever.
To sum it all up, we offer a comedic quote by an unknown author:
“Men who go bald in front are thinkers.
Men who go bald in back are lovers.
Men who go bald all aver think they are lovers.” –Unknown

Facts About Hair and Hair Loss

The Production of Hair
The hair follicle is the factory where the hair and the hair coloring are produced. As you can see from the drawing, it is a complex mechanism.
The activity of each follicle in human beings is independent of the others (a mosaic pattern). Some animals shed their hair when warm weather comes: all the follicles go into the telogen or resting stage at one time. Human beings with healthy follicles, however, usually do not shed great amounts of hair. Since ninety percent of healthy hair follicles are in the growing stage at all times, no loss of hair is evident.
The hair matrix at the base of the follicle is where the action takes place. The cells in this area produce keratin, the tough protein of which the hair is made, and melanin which stains the keratin giving the hair its color. This action takes place only during the growing stage of the hair cycle.
You can also see in the drawing that the follicle is nourished by a network of capillaries. These capillaries are the delivery system bringing nutrients (amino acids, vitamins, minerals) to the base of the follicle. The amount of blood available to the scalp and therefore to the follicles is determined by the health of the capillaries in the scalp and the arteries in the neck and temples.
Hair synthesis and melanin production are complex processes carried on deep in the follicle’s core. Superficial cures for baldness like shampoos to “unclog” the follicles or tonics with “active ingredients” to stimulate hair growth just don’t work.
The Role of Heredity
In order to interpret the biological role of heredity in hair loss it is necessary to differentiate between heredity and predisposition. Heredity is the genetic potential you are born with: eye color, skin color, hair color. These are the biological givens that are on your driver’s license.
On the other hand, predisposition is the tendency of the body to acquire certain disorders: obesity, diabetes, hair loss. These are the things you don’t like about yourself when you have an examination or look in the mirror.
Can you reverse predisposition? You can’t eliminate the predispositions of the body but you can often contain them. For example, if you have the predisposition to obesity or diabetes, you can elect to change your life style. You can go on a low-calorie diet stressing fruits and vegetables. You can also exercise every day or at least keep active.
The same is true about the predisposition to hair loss. Generic Proscar, Gneric Propecia, and Dutasteride (Avodart) will all counteract the predisposition to baldness. The approximately one hundred thousand hairs on the human scalp once they leave the hair canal are biologically dead. They can be dyed and curled and straightened, but they cannot be coaxed back to luxuriant teenage health by anything a barber or a beautician or a health food store can offer. Please browse around the other pages on this Web site for ideas that might legitimately help you to halt hair loss and possibly grow new hair.
However there are solutions for hair loss. There are many online hair loss medications available like generic Propecia (Finpecia),Generic Proscar (Fincar).for more information on how generic propecia and generic proscar works, their dosage etc visit http://www.genericpills4less.com/hair_loss.php

What is Areata Alopecia?

Alopecia Areata is the name given to a condition where round bald spots appear on your skin and scalp. The hair loss is very sudden and quite often drastic. Alopecia is a disorder that causes a patient’s immune cells to attack their own hair-growing tissue for unknown reasons. Usually a trigger is needed to start the process (often in the form of a virus)
There are three basic stages of Alopecia Areata:
1. Sudden hair loss. The patient will notice a bald spot. Which may appear minimal at first.
2. The bald area will enlarge; hair loss will increase in the immediate area of sighted balding.
3. New hair will grow in place of the lost hair. This process is different for everyone. Hair may start growing in a matter of weeks, months, sometimes more than one year. Nevertheless, it’s very rare that hair does not grow back.
Not Just the Scalp
Patients who start losing hair from their body (including eyebrows and eyelashes) are very frightened. They have every reason to feel this way. Alopecia Areata acts in such a way that it’s very unnatural. But these patients are not alone in their experiences. Most patients do not realize that the symptoms that they’re experiencing are all attributes of Alopecia–a temporary condition.
Common Misconceptions:
While many patients blame stress, medication, and poor diet; there is not any clinical proof that these claims coincide with the balding disorder. Unfortunately, doctors do not know why a patient’s immune cells turn on the body and cause this condition. Despite this lack of information, studies do show that Alopecia Areata commonly occurs in patients whose family members have had the condition. Alopecia Areata is not contagious.
Treatment:
While patience is an important asset with this condition, your physician may suggest cortisone shots (which promote and stimulate hair growth). Although Cortisone shots have been very successful with Alopecia patients, these shots are very painful. The average patient who opts for this treatment receives twenty to thirty shots into each patch, once per month. This treatment is only effective for the immediate area that has been injected. It does not assist hair growth in other bald areas.
Unfortunately, doctors can not predict if this treatment will work for you. There are no guaranteed results. A prescription cortisone cream is another solution, which can be applied to the bald area. Cortisone cream is not painful and can be applied easily in the privacy of your home.

Hair Loss -A Discussion

Who ever dreamed of going bald? It doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman, hair loss is a problem that concerns everyone and it does not depend on the gender. Women are more obviously worried, but men worry also, they just have difficulty recognizing it.
Hair loss is a condition that may affect the social activity of someone. Studies show that some women even left their jobs when they found out they were going bald for some reason. Men are less concerned, but this can also affect them psychologically, especially if they are the only bald man in their inner circle.
In spite of that, some women are especially attracted by bald men and this has even changed the way some dating agencies promote the date among their members. Some have created a section only for bald men, where women can find the one they like.
However, hair loss is still a concern.
Causes of hair loss
Many factors are considered to be the cause of hair loss. The most important thing to keep in mind is that people experience hair loss due to different causes. In some cases, we have an isolated factor as the cause and in other situations we have a combination of factors.
Some of the factors are:
- Hereditary predisposition
– Prescribed drugs therapies
– Skin disorders
– Severe stress
– Pregnancy
– Bacterial infections
– Radiation
– Chemotherapy
– Excessive androgen production
In addition to that, specialists state that women can experience hair loss due to the menopause. During his period, women go through a phase in which the production of hormones is decreased, which can affect the whole female body.
Another thing that doctors advise as a good habit is to keep healthy daily habits, including a healthy diet and physical exercise, which help to decrease the levels of stress.
Preventing hair loss
Although it’s difficult to predict who will experience hair loss and who isn’t, some things can be done in order to avoid that or delay the age it will happen. Here are some tips to prevent hair loss:
- Eat a diet rich in proteins
– Avoid the unnecessary use of drugs
– Keep a proper hygiene habit
– Avoid hormonal drugs therapy
Women have another things they can do in order to help hair loss. It seems to be pretty effective when women combine prescribed treatment with natural therapies. Some herbs can help, such as:
- Sage: it’s excellent for weak hair
– Rosemary: it enhances dark hair
– Chamomile: it promotes healthy hair growth
– Burdock root: it prevents hair from falling
It’s important to emphasize that although natural treatments are helpful, it should not replace the prescribed treatments.

Hair Loss Solutions

Although many people do not have visible hair loss, hair loss is a natural daily occurrence. Approximately 50 to 150 hairs are lost each day, but most hair regenerates because the hair follicle remains intact. If the follicles shrink due to heredity, hormones, stress, infection, certain prescription medication, illness, nutritional deficiency or age, the hair is not restored. When shedding significantly surpasses hair growth, baldness occurs. This Male Pattern Baldness (Androgenetic Alopecia)usually begins at the forehead or on the top of the head, and progresses to the familiar horseshoe-shaped fringe of hair. Depending on your type of hair loss, treatments are available.
Since hair loss may be an early sign of a disease, it is important to find the cause so that it can be properly treated. A doctor usually inspects the hair shafts, and may perform a biopsy of the skin. A biopsy helps determine if the hair follicles are normal; if they are not, the biopsy may indicate possible causes. If the doctor’s examination finds signs of irregularities or other serious illness, blood tests to identify those disorders may be required.
There are two medications that can treat baldness effectively.Generic Propecia Finpecia and Generic Proscar Fincar.Finpecia and Fincar are indicated for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) in MEN ONLYdemonstrated in men between the ages of 18 to 41 years with mild to moderate hair loss of the vertex and anterior mid-scalp area.
Individuals with increased levels of the hormone DHT in the scalp experience a shortening growth phase or thinning of the hair. finpecia and Fincar lowers the level of this hormone, and contributes to the normalization of the hair growth cycle.
Improvement may occur with either of these drugs when taken for several months. The most important effect of these drugs may be to prevent further hair loss. The effects last only as long as the drugs are taken. A more permanent solution is a hair transplant, in which hair follicles are removed from one part of the scalp and transplanted to the bald area. During this procedure, the surgeon removes a section of hair form the back of the head, near the base of the skull. This area of hair is genetically different because they do not have the gene for hair loss in their follicles. Only a small scar is left and unless one shaves the back of the scalp is it not noticeable. The donated follicles are then placed in saline solution, while small incisions are made in the areas of hair loss. Each individual donated follicle is placed creating an uneven ordinary hairline. After the hairline is formed, the remaining donor follicles are put where thinned or balding spots occur.
In the newer hair transplant technique, only one or two hairs are transplanted at a time. Although this technique is more tedious, and time consuming, it does not require removal of large plugs of skin and allows the implants to be oriented in the same direction as the natural hair.

Top 10 Myths About Hair Loss

Have you ever seen the show Myth Busters? Well we’re about to bust some common myths and misconceptions related to hair loss. Call us the ‘Hair-Myth Busters.’ The following myths have been passed on for generations. Some of them have been heard so many times that they must be true. Right? No. A myth is just that–a myth. There’s no scientific evidence that supports any of these tall tales.
Myth 1: Wearing a ball-cap can make you go bald.
Oh, we‘ve all heard this one before. Now ask yourself this: How come all of the professional baseball players aren’t bald? This old tale is assumed to be passed down from the time of WWI. Incidentally, soldiers started reporting hair loss and attributed it to their uniform hats. We could only attribute these reports as coincidence, as men display signs of male pattern baldness in their twenties.
Myth 2: Men who are balding should trim their hair every few weeks. It will make hair grow back faster.
Sorry guys, it isn’t true. Your head is not a lawn. Hair cannot be compared to weeds. When hair is gone, it’s gone–unless of course it’s temporary hair loss. That’s entirely different. Otherwise, medical treatments are the only solution to re-grow missing hair.
Myth 3: Split ends must be repaired or you’ll go bald!
Unfortunately there’s nothing that can ‘repair’ split ends. Nevertheless, split ends should be cut off, as the split ends will spread and promote more damage to your hair.
Myth 4: Men and women experiencing hair loss aren’t brushing their hair enough.
Woah! This ‘Hair Myth’ has been busted. Excessive brushing is the leading contributor to split ends and breakage of hair. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t groom yourself anymore! Just get your hair the way you want it and put the brush down! Nobody needs to stroke their hair with a brush 100 times a day.
Myth 5: If you shave your head, less hair will grow back
Spare us the Hair Scare! You can’t shave away your hair follicles…Your hair will grow back if you shave your head.
Myth 6: Balding Men should pluck all of their gray hair, as two hairs will grow back in place of each one!
If this were true, balding men would be pulling out their gray’s by the fistful, just to get a full head of hair. I suppose they’d dye it later…But this story is obviously bogus.
Myth 7: Baldness can always be traced back to the mother’s side of the family.
Poor mom! While pattern baldness is genetic, it can be passed down from the mother or father’s side. It may or may not skip generations. Guys, don’t expect mom to reimurse you for your Minoxidil purchases!
Myth 8: Most women aren’t attracted to bald men.
Um, tell that to Bruce Willis, Billy Zane, Michael Jordan, Andre Agassi, Montel Williams, Billy Corgan, Michael Stipe, Charles Barkley, Stanley Tucci, Samuel L. Jackson, Nicholas Cage, and Vin Diesel. This one is obviously nothing more than a myth.
Myth 9: Losing 100 hairs a day is NOT normal.
Actually, that’s very normal. That’s the average amount of hair that a person sheds on a daily basis.
Myth 10: Blow Dryers Cause Hair Loss
Not exactly. Blow Dryers can over-dry and damage your hair. But once the damaged hair fall out, new hair will replace it. Balding isn’t connected with blow-drying your hair.

Facts for Men and Women Experiencing Hair Loss

Hair plays an important role in most people’s overall appearance. Hair, teeth, and nails are all admired and emulated as a sign of beauty in our society. Unfortunately, when we see signs of appearance slipping, we are devastated. As men and women, we have to realize that sometimes these things are out of our control. Hair loss does NOT imply that we’re ‘slipping’ or ‘aging poorly.’ Instead, hair loss can be caused by a hereditary trait, a hormonal imbalance, stress, a reaction to medication, or a symptom of sickness.
If you’re concerned about your hair loss, you should contact your family physician. He/she may suggest a blood test and/or refer you to a dermatologist. A doctor can diagnose the cause of your condition through blood testing, history, and categorization.
Get the facts. The most common types of hair loss include:
Alopecia Areata: this condition is characterized by the loss of hair, which results in hairless, round patches on the scalp. In extreme cases, this condition may cause the complete loss of body hair. It is commonly found in people under the age of thirty.
Androgenetic Alopecia: this condition has been coined “pattern baldness.” It’s common is men and women over the age of forty and affects both men and women differently. Men tend to experience a receding/thinning front hairline. In women, this condition may result in thinning to the top of the scalp. Typically, the front hairline is preserved.
Telogen effluvium: Also known as “resting hair loss,” can be a little trickier to diagnose as it doesn’t effect one particular area of the scalp. Men and women who experience diffuse hair loss quite commonly experience this condition. It occurs often after childbirth, surgery, infection, and can accompany autoimmune diseases.
Did you know that hair products can cause hair loss? It’s true.

Men and women who wear tight ponytails and braids on a regular basis are prone to receding hairlines and thin hair.
Use of heavy styling products, including sprays, hairs, and gels (which contain alcohol) weather the hair and promote breakage.
Hair perms and dyes dry the hair and cause breakage.
Hair Loss in hair stylists is exceptionally high as they tend to use an excessive amount of cosmetic hair products.
Today, there’s a number of treatments available to men and women experiencing balding and/or hair loss. You name it, it’s available. Topical creams, oral medications, injections of cortisone, scalp reductions, and hair transplants are all accessible to the man and women who wish to change their appearance.
Nevertheless, what works for one person may not work for another. Consult with your physician to see which option (if any) would suit your condition.

Balding Cure – Buy Propecia?

Balding Cure? The most common form of hair loss is male pattern hair loss, accounting for 95% of all cases of baldness. Approximately 50% of all men will start balding by the time they reach the age of 50 so it really is a very common problem. Previously the only solution male pattern and other types of hair loss have been wigs or hats but all these do is cover it up. There have always been miracle creams and shampoos available that claim to replace lost hair and charge a lot of money for the privilege but most men who try them end up disappointed because they simply didn’t have the expected or desired results. Generic Propecia is a proven balding cure and is available from your doctor or, more conveniently, over the Internet.
You will more than likely be familiar with male pattern hair loss. It starts with balding around the crown of the head or with a receding hairline and progresses from there. It is widely accepted amongst doctors and scientists that DHT (dihydrotestosterone) is partially responsible for the balding process. DHT is a chemical that diminishes the hair follicle to such a size that it can no longer be seen.
Finding a proven balding cure that stood up to proper and rigorous testing had proven difficult until Propecia was discovered. Propecia and generic Propecia work by lowering the amount of DHT that is found within your body. Not only does this prevent further balding but it also helps the existing hair follicles to re-grow much stronger effectively making it a balding cure. Generic Propecia has shown excellent results in tests and approximately 70% of men who have undergone clinical trials with generic Propecia have found that there has grown back. This is a fact that was tested by dermatologists and scientific researchers to verify the results.
Generic Propecia can start having noticeable results in as little as 3 months, although if your hair loss is showing no signs of improvement after 12 months then further treatment is unlikely to yield the result you require. If you stop taking generic Propecia after results begin to show then the advantages and the improvement you have gained will deteriorate and leave you balding once again. For this reason, you need to be able to find a cheap but reliable source of Propecia. Your physician can prescribe you Propecia but this is not a cheap option, and there are cheaper options available to you.
Generic Propecia is a drug that is identical to Propecia but is available at a fraction of the cost and in larger bulk. Online generic pharmacys can supply you with generic Propecia and if you do not already have a prescription then they can also complete an online consultation with you and give you the prescription you require. This is much more convenient than visiting your physician and you will know if you are going bald or not. Generic pharmacys are not meant to replace regular visits to your physician but in certain circumstances they provide a very good alternative.
As far as a balding cure goes nothing has been proven to work as well as Propecia for either stopping the balding process or helping the re-growth of your lost hair. In the long run it is quite possible to redevelop a full head of hair through the regular use of Propecia. If you are interested then you should consider going using a generic pharmacy and purchasing generic Propecia. It has the same results but at a fraction of the total cost.
